Agriculture

Agriculture has always been a crucial part of human survival. To quote our Agricultural instructor Joshua, "food is something we all have in common, and yet food systems exist that do not bring people together." In the Agriculture portion of our program, we addressed the failure of our current food system to be regenerative or sustainable. We went over the characteristics that make a food system sustainable and three important facets of sustainability:

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is the responsibility to conserve natural resources and protect global ecosystems to support health and wellbeing, now and in the future.

Social Sustainability

Social sustainability occurs when the formal and informal processes; systems; structures; and relationships actively support the capacity of current and future generations to create healthy and livable communities.

Economic Sustainability

Economic sustainability refers to practices that support long-term economic growth without negatively impacting social, environmental, and cultural aspects of the community.
